I certainly haven't been very good about updating this page. Life and work have been keeping me pretty busy and I've unfortunately not had much opportunity to market "Darkstar" in any meaninful way. I am still working on the Adanya story and it is in decent shape. It is, in essence, completed, but now I'm going through and finding all the places where more detail is needed to flesh out the whole story. A few people have reviewed the rough draft and seem quite happy with it, so I'm taking that as a positive sign.
I don't have as much opportunity to work on it as I would like, so progress - while happening - is happening slowly.
One of these days, you'll see it in print!
Work in progress...
March 2005
Been a while since I updated, hasn't it? Progress is going much better with the Adanya story, although I'm still behind where I had hoped to be in my schedule. I've been rewriting my first draft and getting it ready to be reviewed by some friends who I know will be honest (to the point of being blunt) as to what works and what doesn't with the story. If all goes well, I can get that draft to them by the end of April (but probably more likely in May). Once I get their edits, it will be time to start sending it out to some agents. After that I'll have to decide how long I want to pursue that avenue, or if I want to consider self-publishing again.
I've also been working a little in the fan fiction realm when I'm stuck on what to do with Adanya. If you're ever interested, I have things posted at www.fanfiction.net under the pen name Roisin Dubh (those of you who have read Darkstar will recognize that name!)
December 2004
Well, it has been slow going, I must say. I've hit a lot of roadblocks in my creativity lately, but I think I'm starting to work through it. My printout of Adanya is about 158 pages right now. So, I've still got some holes to fill and get my rewrite done. I had hoped to have this cranked out in a year, but that is wistful thinking... funny how working full time and trying to promote "Darkstar Rising" doesn't seem to leave much time for writing.
I want to have my rewrite done by the middle of April. So it is time to get working on that goal!
August 2004
Well, "Seafarer" isn't moving as quickly as I'd like. After reading over what I had written, it was missing SOMETHING, but I couldn't quite see what. Very frustrating. Finally, I figured out a few things... mainly I was wasting too much time fretting over filling three books instead of just writing the darn story! Once I have the story, then I can see how to best split it up if it is too long for a single book. Now that I've figured that out, I find I'm making a wee bit more progress, but still not as much as I'd like.
I had hoped to have Seafarer ready for public consumption by sometime this fall, but unfortunately, I'm too far behind in my timeline for that now. Hopefully, I'll have a productive fall and winter and we'll see what happens with the spring thaw in 2005.
April 2004
"Seafarer" is slowly taking shape. I have my full first draft done and now I'm working on the second draft. A few friends, who I trust to be completely honest with my work, have read it. Overall, feedback has been great, but they've pointed out some key things to think about, too. I've also managed to do rough outlines for book 2 and possibly book 3 of Seafarer.
I've also had several people ask me if another Darkstar book is in the works. Right now, I'm not working on anything currently, but I have whole notebook full of notes and ideas for a possible future volume. So I doubt anyone has heard the last of Darkstar...
Summer 2003
"Seafarer's Secret" is the new book I'm currently working on. It is only in the starting stages right now, but I hope to have the full rough draft completed before the end of the year.
It is the story of Adanya, who discovers that she's the daughter of a King. The first book not only chronicles the changes in her life that happen when her parentage is revealed, but it also chronicles her discovery of who she really is. And who she really was.
Please check back from time to time for updates on Adanya's story...
